Indian Institute of Technology Madras is the best engineering and technology institute of Southern India. IIT Madras was established by Government of India in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is also known as IIT Chennai. It was established in year 1959 with an aim to provide education and research facilities in engineering & technology. IIT Madras is a residential institute covering an area of 250 hectares, with nearly 460 faculty, 4500 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff.
It has established itself as a premier centre for teaching, research and industrial consultancy in the country. IIT Madras has been ranked No. 3 by India Today in the list of Top 25 Engineering colleges of India. The institute has 15 departments and advance research centres offering various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral engineering & technology programmes. Admission to various course offered by IIT Madras is based on JEE, GATE, JMET, JAM and HSEE entrance exams.
