Indian Institute of Foreign trade also known as IIFT, was set up in year 1963 by the Government of India to professionalize the country's foreign trade management by developing human resources, analyzing and disseminating data, and conducting research. IIFT introduced its new campus at Salt Lake, Kolkata in year 2006. After dedicated efforts from the institute, faculty members and motivated students, IIFT has established itself as one of the best b-schools in India. IIFT is an institution with proven capability to continuously upgrade its knowledge base with a view to servicing the requirements of the Government and trade industry.
The IIFT library houses over 84,000 volumes and subscriptions to 800 journals with ebooks. The facilities available on campus include centrally air-conditioned lecture halls with audio-visual aids, auditorium of 500 seating capacity, Computer centres, conference halls and residential facilities for students. In year 2009 an estimated 65000 candidates took the entrance exam for admission in Full Time MBA (IB) course for 180 seats. Which means that one student was selected from 361 candidates. Thus it can be said that IIFT is one of the toughest business schools to get into in India.

Admission Procedure
Recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years’ duration in any discipline is required to apply for admission in IIFT. There is no age limit for the course. The admission will be decided on the basis of written test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Based on marks obtained in the written test, candidates are called for Group Discussion and Interview. Foreign National candidates and NRI’s will be shortlisted on the basis of General Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
The test condudted by IIFT consists of multiple choice objective type questions of 200 marks. It covers English comprehension, General Knowledge and awareness, Logical Reasoning and quantitative analysis. IIFT Test Centers are Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur and Visakhapatnam.
