Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years.
A Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognized University or equivalent.
Candidates who are studying in final year Degree Course and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can also apply for examination, but they will be required to submit proof of passing by the specified dates published in Commission’s Notice for Examination.
Mode of entrance Exam
The written examination consists of six papers. Paper I contains 300 marks questions from General English, Papers II contains 300 marks questions from General Knowledge and Paper III to VI contains 200 marks questions each.
For papers III to VI a candidates has to select 2 optional papers from a list of subjects which include Agriculture, Botany, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Zoology, Forestry, Statistics and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary/Science. Each optional subject will consist of 2 papers.
However, candidates are not allowed to select the following subject combination:
- Agriculture Engineering and Agriculture
- Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science and Agriculture
- Statistics and Mathematics
- Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and
- Any two engineering subjects
The candidates who are selected after the written exam are then called for Personality Test.
Application Procedure
Candidates are required to apply UPSC IFS Examination Online using the link www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up Online Applications for Geologist are available on the above-mentioned website.
Offline Forms should be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices only and not from any other agency. This form can be used only once and for only one examination. Candidates, applying offline, must use the form supplied with the Information Brochure only and they should in no case use photocopy, reproduction, or any unauthorized printed copy of the Form.
The duly filled in IFS application form and the Acknowledgement Card should be mailed in the special envelope to the following address
