Alipurduar College was established in 1957 with financial assistance from the Central Government of India, Alipurduar College got the initial recognition as a Government Sponsored College affiliated to the University of North Bengal; and in due course of time, came under the 2F and 12B category of the University Grants Commission . It is a full-fledged co-education college with all the streams - science, arts and commerce.

Though it is overburdened with the load of nearly 5000 students, the teachers are trying to impart quality-education within the ambience of the N.B.U. syllabuses.
