IIM Calcutta was established by the Government of India in year 1961 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Being the first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to set up, IIM Calcutta is the oldest of all the six Indian Institutes of Management in India. It is considered as one of the top business schools in India. The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM C) offers several Post Graduate and Doctoral programmes, as well as a bunch of Executive training programmes.

The vision of IIM Calcutta is "to emerge as an International Centre of Excellence in all facets of Management Education, rooted in Indian ethos and societal values". IIM-C is especially renowned for finance-related courses and it is widely reputed as the best B-school in India for Business Finance. IIM Calcutta in 2009-10 placement season, set the record for the highest salary ever offered among Indian MBA programmes, with an offer of Rs. 1.65crores. The institute campus is spread over an area of 135 acres in Joka. IIM Calcutta offers residential quarters to students, faculty members and staff. The B.C. Roy memorial library of IIM Calcutta is the largest management library in Asia.
Courses Offered & Department
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
It is a two-year residential full-time academic programme that is designed to help students become high-level business administrators with a broad strategic vision. This programme usually starts in June and runs till April of the second year since the start of the programme. PGDM course at IIM Calcutta includes areas such as Accounting, Behavioural Sciences, Economics, Finance, General Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Operations, Public Policy and Strategy.
Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management (PGDCM)
It was started in year 1994 and it is similar in overall structure to PGDM. The difference is that it has special emphasis on Information Technology and its business applications. It is aimed at creating business professionals who would know how to apply Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) in business management.
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)
The Fellow Programme in Management is the PhD program or doctoral program of IIMA. The main objective of FPM is to provide students with the necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management.
Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX)
The PGPEX Programme is a full-time one year IIM Calcutta’s Executive MBA programme. It was introduced in December 2006 to develop experienced and ambitious executives for leadership positions in global organizations. The programme emphasizes practical problem-solving and the development of cross-cultural skills.
Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM)
The mission of the PGPEX-VLM is to develop future visionary leaders for the manufacturing sector in India so as to enhance the global competitiveness of our manufacturing sector. It is an Executive management programme administered by IIM Calcutta along with two other premier Indian educational institutes IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras.
Admission Procedure
CAT or GMAT score and a Bachelor’s degree are required to apply for the IIM Postgraduate Programs in Management (PGP). In some Post Graduate programs you can also apply if you are awaiting your results. As you apply for a Postgraduate Program in Management, your academic record, scholastic achievements, personal Interview, group discussion and performance in the relevant field of work is often counted upon during the selection procedure.
