Sivanath Sastri College owes its origin to the City College, Calcutta, which is one of the oldest first- grade colleges in Bengal. The City College was founded in the year 1879 by a band of patriotic and dedicated workers headed by Late Ananda Mohan Bose, It has a long record of brilliant results and this claim is evident from its alumni crowded by many great and nobel daughters of Bengal. The Commerce Dept. of the College was inaugurated in 1939 and South Calcutta Branch of the Commerce Dept. started in 1946 as an emergency measure to provide facilities to South Calcutta students. The morning classes for women were started in South Calcutta Branch in 1955. This unit named after the hallowed memory of Late Pandit Sivanath Sastri, an illustrious son of Bengal, was separately affiliated in 1961 to the Calcutta University. Since then the College has had no occasion to look back. During the brief period of 50 years, this Women’s Branch has been catering immensely to the growing needs of the women students, many of whom might otherwise have been deprived of higher education.

B.Com Honours
- For General Category :
- 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in Accountancy plus 45% marks in BEBM / Maths / Stats.
- 55% marks in aggregate and 55% marks in Maths / Stats. (For Science Students).
- For SC/ST Category :
- 40% marks in aggregate OR 40% marks in related Subject.
- For Physically Challenged and For Outstanding Sports Person :
- 50% marks in aggregate OR 45% marks in related Subject.
- Weightage will be given to Accountancy for Commerce Students and Maths and Stats for other Students.
B.Sc/ B.A Honours Courses
- For General Category :
- 55% Marks in aggregate and 60% Marks in subject.
- For SC/ST Category :
- 40% Marks in aggregate and 40% Marks in Geography.
- For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person :
- 50% Marks in aggregate and 40% Marks in Subject.
Document Required:
- Mark Sheet & Admit Cards (both in original) of the previous qualifying Final Examination.
- A letter from the guardian or legal guardian when student will not live with her parents.
- Candidates coming from other University Board or students with a break of study etc. should ascertain their eligibility from the University before registering their admission.
- Transfer Certificate , when a student is from another College and Migration Certificate when a student is from another Board/University , is to be produced at the time of admission.
- Student coming from outside Kolkata should take particular care in stating their home address , Telephone no, if any ,and railway station.
- Original documents required to be produced for inspection are to be taken back by the candidates unless otherwise so directed by the College authority. Entries in the form cannot be charged or expunged after admission.
- Prompt action should be taken to regularize provisional admission cases.
- Admission rules in all cases and undertaking on the part of the students, must be undershood as applicable for the full course and for all disciplines taught in the college.
- Any charge of residence must be communicated to the Principal at the earliest convenience of the student.
