Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, is the first medical college in the private sector in India. Also known by the name, KMC manipal, the college came into existence in June 30, 1953. Initially, it started with only the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical training. Later on with the clinical programme having commenced at Manipal in 1969, it became a full-fledged independent college.
Kasturba Medical College Manipal received recognition from Medical Council of India (MCI) in 1958. KMC Manipal consistently ranks among the top 10 medical colleges in the country.
