Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research

Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research Pondicherry is one of the premier medical colleges and hospitals in India. The origin of JIPMER can be traced to 1823 when a medical school called Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry was established by French government. After Pondicherry's transfer to India, Government of India took over the medical college in 1956. In 1964, the medical college was upgraded as a Regional Centre and was christened as Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER)

Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Pondicherry is affiliated to Pondicherry University and has a tertiary care referral hospital. The hospital is under the direct administrative control of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. JIPMER Pondicherry conducts medical science courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level.
