The Gujarat Technological University, more commonly referred to as GTU, is a statewide institution affiliating many esteemed engineering, pharmacy, and management colleges and varsities across the western Indian state of Gujarat. Established on 23rd November 1949, Gujarat University is the oldest and largest university of Gujarat state. It has various schools and departments with more than 400 affiliated colleges and educational institutions spread all over Gujarat. It is a UGC recognized university and it also has been given a B++ ranking by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The main campus of the university is spread over a vast expanse of over 260acres in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad city.
Gujarat University was established as a national University by Mahatma Gandhi on October 18, 1920.It was founded in 1920 by Mohandas Gandhi.Ghandhiji wanted his vidyapith to prepare the youths for the task of national reconstruction and usher in ‘Hind Society’. Many students have been a part of these University, in 1923 total number of students in these institution were 30,000.
Gujarat Vidyapith imparts graduation level courses in languages such as Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Sanskrit, Persian, English. Nirma University of Science and Technology popularly known as NU (or NU-IT, NIT or NIM) is an autonomous university located in Ahmedabad, India. It is one of the foremost universities in Gujarat sprawling across a big campus on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. It is also the oldest private university in the state of Gujarat. Nirma University is consistently ranked as first choice for students passing out of Gujarat Board Higher Secondary Exams.
It functioned under well-known Gujarat University earlier, but considering the excellent quality of education being provided, the Government of Gujarat established it as autonomous university named as Nirma University of Science and Technology under Act No. 10 passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Gujarat in April 2003. This development ensured the merging of all Institutes under the NERF into a single entity of Nirma University of Science and Technology. The university has also been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the UGC Act.
