On November 7th 1996, the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University was renamed Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University to pay tribute to the Parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga, an outstanding educationist, peasant leader and freedom fighter. A huge bronze statue of Acharya N.G. Ranga was framed at the main campus of the University.

The university offers courses leading to graduate, post-graduate and PhD degrees. Admissions in under-graduate courses are done on basis of the performance of the candidates in the state-wide Engineering, Agriculture and medicine Common Entrance Test, EAMCET, conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. For Masters Degree courses admissions are based on the past academic record and performance in entrance test while for admission into PhD, the past academic record and performance in interview is the criterion for selection.

Sri Venkateswara University PG Centre at Kadapa was established as a constituent institute of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on 20th November, 1977.

It was upgraded as Yogi Vemana University by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through an Act of A.P. Legislative Assembly on 9th March 2006. It is located at Ganganapalli village and Panchayat about 15 KM from the Kadapa city on the Kadapa-Pulivendla road. The campus is spread over 450 acres of land.
