Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The Institute was opened by Jawahar Lal Nehru on 10 April 1956. It is situated at Bhavnagar, in Gujarat. CSMCRI with much scientific excitement has now achieved technological excellence with several granted patents in the core mandate of the institute and is one among the top performing national R&D laboratories in the country. At the beginning of 2011, the Institute has around 360 staff with 150 S&T staff on its roll and around 250 research fellows and project assistants pursing their doctoral programme.

Shri K. L. Institute for the Deaf has been established in Bhavnagar 50 years ago, and registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 vide Registration No. E-29/Bhavnagar. The present institute building for the hearing impaired is designed on the technical data obtained from Royal National Institute for the Deaf,U.K. Foundation stone was laid by Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister in 1970. This specially designed school is an award winner specimen of architectural design.
Shantilal Shah Pharmacy College (SSPC), Bhavnagar was established in 1992 with the prime objective of providing effective & efficient education in pharmacy. The college is affiliated to Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
