The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences was established in 1995. It is the first government-private initiative in the region. Sikkim University is a UGC recognized Central University of India situated in Gangtok. It was established on 2nd July, 2007. The Ministry of Human Resources Development and State Government are deeply committed to make this University an international educational institution. Sikkim University offers traditional courses in humanities, physical and life sciences and forestry along with non-traditional courses related to the state including subjects like ethnic history, mountain studies, border studies and hill music and culture.
