Indian Institute of Technology (IITG) is located in Guwhati in Indian state of Assam. The campus is on a 700 acres plot of land located on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 km from the heart of the city. It is an engineering and technology institute. It is a member of the IIT fraternity. This institute is recognized as an institute of national importance by the Indian Government. This institute ranks among the top engineering colleges of India.

This institute was established in 1994 and its academic session started in 1995. The selection procedure of this institute is same as the other IITs, which is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). IITG has 11 departments offering various courses. It also has a research centre with state of the art equipments and aids.
