Central University of Jharkhand or CUJ is an educational institution in Brambe (Ranchi), Jharkhand, India. The President of India gave assent to The Central Universities Act, 2009 that envisages establishing and incorporating universities for teaching and research in the various states.

The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March 2009. The Visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor.

CUJ is a non-affiliating university and its focus will be on research in cutting-edge technologies. Six new courses have been approved for the next Academic Session beginning 21st of July, 2010. They are:Nanotechnology, Water Engineering and Management, Indigenous Cultural Studies, Life Sciences, Applied Physics and Applied Chemistry

The University is sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (Icfai), a not-for-profit educational society established in 1984 under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act, 1350 F (Act No.1 of 1350F), with the objective of imparting training in finance and management to students, working executives and professionals in India. The University is located in Ashok Nagar, Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The Nilamber-Pitamber University was formed on 17th January, 2009 in Medininagar, Palamau division of Jharkhand. It's main aim was to provide higher education opportunities to students of the neglected region of the state.

Currently, there are four constituent colleges, eight affiliated colleges, two engineering colleges, one dental college and two colleges of education under Nilamber-Pitamber University. In addition to these, the University has received proposals of five other colleges for affiliation from Ranchi University Office, which are pending as yet. The University has also received proposals of Medical College, Ayurvedic College, Homeopathic College and Nursing College from Vananchal Educational and Welfare Trust, Garhwa.
