Central University of Jharkhand or CUJ is an educational institution in Brambe (Ranchi), Jharkhand, India. The President of India gave assent to The Central Universities Act, 2009 that envisages establishing and incorporating universities for teaching and research in the various states.
The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March 2009. The Visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor.
CUJ is a non-affiliating university and its focus will be on research in cutting-edge technologies. Six new courses have been approved for the next Academic Session beginning 21st of July, 2010. They are:Nanotechnology, Water Engineering and Management, Indigenous Cultural Studies, Life Sciences, Applied Physics and Applied ChemistryThe Kolhan University was established on 12 August 2009 with 14 Constituent Colleges and 12 Affiliated Colleges in geographical jurisdiction of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharsawan District. The University is in the area of tribal region.
The total number of students enrolled in Kolhan University for Bachelors, Masters and Vocational/Professional Courses comes to 55,500. In graduation level 43,000 students have been enrolled in Part-I and Part-II. The number of Part III students is about 12,500, at present appearing from Ranchi University. Apart from that, the number of students enrolled in PG, Medical, Dental, Engineering, MBA, B.Ed. and Vocational/Add-on Courses are about 8,142.The Nilamber-Pitamber University was formed on 17th January, 2009 in Medininagar, Palamau division of Jharkhand. It's main aim was to provide higher education opportunities to students of the neglected region of the state.
Currently, there are four constituent colleges, eight affiliated colleges, two engineering colleges, one dental college and two colleges of education under Nilamber-Pitamber University. In addition to these, the University has received proposals of five other colleges for affiliation from Ranchi University Office, which are pending as yet. The University has also received proposals of Medical College, Ayurvedic College, Homeopathic College and Nursing College from Vananchal Educational and Welfare Trust, Garhwa.

The university has a total student intake of around 90,000 students from its affiliated colleges. It has a central library with approximately 150,000 books for the academic needs of the students. There are a total of 2 male hostels and 4 female hostels in the university campus situated at Kutchery Road, Morabadi in Ranchi. The university is financially dependent on UGC funds (Rs. 38 crores annually) in addition to the fees paid by the students.
