Central University of Kerala has been established through an Act of Parliament: “The Central Universities Act, 2009" (Act No.25 of 2009) by Govt. of India, situated at Kasaragod Town, the northern-most district in the Indian state of Kerala. The university was established in the year 1971 as an urban campus and it was established when a resolution by government of kerala. The university wants to strengthens it contact and want to collaborate with the international universities so that they met lead to the path of growth in the frontier areas of learning. The University of Cochin was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986.the University provides specialization in all the departments. Kannur University was established in 1996 to provide development of higher education in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Wayanad districts of Kerala, India.Kannur University was established by the Act 22 of 1996 of Kerala Legislative Assembly. The University by the name “Malabar University” had come into existence even earlier by the promulgaton of an Ordinance by the Governor of Kerala, on 9th November 1995.

Kannur University is unique in the sense that it is a multi-campus university with campuses located at various locations under its jurisdiction. The Act envisages that the University shall establish, maintain, manage and develop campuses at Kannur, Kasargod, mananthavady, payyannur, Thalassery, kanhangad and such other places as are necessary for providing study and research facilities to promote advanced knowledge in Science and Technology and other relevant disciplines.

In year 1937 the University of Travancore was established which was later renamed and became University of Kerala. It is a UGC recognized university, situated in Thiruvananthapuram. It was declared as a Central University in year 2009. Kerala University is ranked as B++ grade University by The National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC). The University of Kerala has a total of 16 faculties and forty one departments of teaching and research. It is affiliated to over 150 colleges, spread across all parts of Kerala.

The Kerala University of Health Sciences was established by the 'Kerala University of Health Sciences Act 2010', for ensuring proper and systematic instruction, teaching, training and research in Modern Medicine, Homoeopathy and Indian Systems of Medicine including Ayurveda, Siddha, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani and other allied sciences and also to have uniformity in the various academic programmes in medical and allied subjects in the State of Kerala. The University is situated at Thrissur, Kerala.

Mahatma Gandhi University was established on 2nd, October 1983. It is the 5th University in the Kerala which provides with quality higher education. The university campus is spread over a vast expanse of 110acres in Athirampuzha. The university has 8 satellite campuses at Soorya Kalady Hills, Puthuppally, Pullarikunnu, Gandhinagar, Thodupuzha, Chuttippara, Nattasserry and Cheruvandoor. Established in year 1962, School of Legal Studies is one of the oldest departments of the University. It was founded as a part of Kerala University, offering postgraduate courses and research in law. School of Legal Studies (NLSIU) has been ranked 13th amongst the Top-25 law schools in the country by India Today. This law school is one of the prestigious institutions engaged in law teaching and research in India.
Since last 47 years of its glorious existence, School of Legal Studies (SLS CUSAT) has been emphasizing on the development of the qualities of innovations, responsibility, self learning and adaptability of each student. Candidates are shortlisted with a rigorous selection process based on a national level written test, interview and group discussion. SCL provides the students with placement facilities and the basic qualification for the participation in the placement programme is LL.B.Degree.

The University of Calicut is an affiliating university in the southern state of Kerala in India. It is situated in Thenjipalam, in the district of Malappuram with a number of off-campus centres in neighbouring districts. The University conducts courses and examinations for the students of the affiliated colleges. Anvar Jahan Zuberi, a professor in Aligarh Muslim University, is the Vice Chancellor of the University. The main campus in Thenjipalam has departments in most of the science and humanities areas. The departments offer post graduate courses and research programmes. However, the main business in the campus is administration and conduct of examinations for all the affiliated colleges which number above 250.
