Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic is a technical school in located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal of India. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic college is established in 1962. It is affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education (WBSCTE), jadavpur univeristy, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic is approved by All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) and provides Diploma level technical education to its students. The college is named after the scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray.

BIET was established by ICARE Birbhum under the Chairmanship of Sri Somnath Chatterjee, Honourable Speaker of the Fourteenth Loksabha and the Vice-chairmanship of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable  Defence Minister, Government of India, BIET started functioning from 1999 under the chairmanship of legendary lndologist Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, presently Member, Central Advisory Board of Education, Govt. of India, former Chancellor of Tirupati University and former Vice Chancellor of Burdwan & Rabindra Bharati Universities and former President of Association of Indian Universities.

St. Thomas' College of Engineering & Technology was established on 29th of August 2000 on a land measuring 5.276 acre alloted by the St. Thomas' School based on the No Objection Cretificate granted by the Government of West Bengal vide Order No.591-Edn(T) dated 28th December, 1999 issued by the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) granted approval vide letter No. 750-80-123(E)/ET/2000 dated 13.07.2000 issued by the Adviser (E&T).
