Established in 1996, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is a Central University of India. The university campus is located on Rae Bareli Road, about 10kms south of the Charbagh Railway Station. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University offers only post-graduate courses. BBAU aims to promote advance knowledge by providing higher standards of instructional and research facilities. The university provides hostel facilities to students who are not the residents of Lucknow.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University offers 17 courses. It has 6 schools and 15 departments in the field of science, economics, computer science, mass communication, bio-technology, law and human development. The central facilities of BBAU are library, guest house, bank, canteen, post office, sports and medical facilities. With the assistance of University Grants Commission, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University established the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) in August 2007.

Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has been established by an Act( No. 25 of 2010) of State Legislature of Uttar Pradesh as a State Private University and UGC vide it's letter no 8-30/2010(CPP-I/PU) dated 17 February, 2011 has empowered it to award degrees under section 22 of the UGC act 1956.

Bhatkhande Music Institute University or BMIU Lucknow, an esteemed study center of Indian traditional music, exists under University Grant Commission Act 1956 in 2000 as a deemed university. The Government of India by a notification on 24th October, 2000, declared this institute a University, thus elevating its status and making it only of its kind music university in India. It is registered under the registration of Societies Act 1860 as an autonomous institution.

Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University is a medical university located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It came into being after the upgrade of King George Medical College into a university by an act passed by government of Uttar Pradesh on 16 September 2002. King George Medical College was established in 1911.

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) was set up in the historic city of Lucknow by the U.P. Act No.28 of 2005. The law school is fully funded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The state of the art campus is developed in 40 acres (160,000 m2) of land in the heart of the city of Lucknow. The University started its academic session from 17 August 2006 with 80 students and 7 faculty members.

Integral University is a state university in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, India, which was established under the Act Number 9 of 2004 by the Uttar Pradesh state government. The Institute of Integral Technology, Lucknow has been elevated to a full university.

University of Lucknow, which came into being in 1920, carries forward the legacy of prestigious Canning College, which was itself founded in 1867 by Raja Dakshinaranjan Mukherjee. The King George's Medical College and Isabella Thoburn College were other influences behind establishment of the university. It is a public university, recognized by UGC.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) is an affiliating University with its educational jurisdiction spread across the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. It is headquartered in IET Campus at Sitapur Road in Lucknow. UPTU Lucknow has a centre and regional office in Noida as well. It is also one of the largest technical universities in India. Owing to its size, number of colleges affiliated to it and geographic dispersion, it has been sub-divided into five zones with 45-50 colleges in each zone.
