The "Department of Post graduate Studies and Research in Law", Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, was granted affiliation in the year 1961 by the Bar Council of India. That year was the Golden year in the field of Legal History of Jabalpur. It laid the foundation stone in the field of Legal education at a place, which is facilitated by the presence of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. Since 1961 the department has prospered and has been consistently growing in the hands of visionary legal luminaries.
National Law Institute University (NLIU) was established in year 1998 in Bhopal. NLIU is recognized by the Bar Council of India. The university admits only 80 undergraduates each year through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). National Law Institute University has been ranked 3rd amongst the Top-25 law schools in the country by India Today. The University is regularly represented in the Harvard Model United Nations. It hosts the R.K. Tankha Memorial National Moot Court Competition annually.
NLIU provides modern legal education through multidisciplinary teaching and training of newer skills that are needed for law. Government of Madhya Pradesh allotted 40 acres of land on a hillock to NLIU to develop a modern campus with modern academic and residential facilities. National Law Institute University has been granted affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC). The University is dedicated to the use of modern methods of teaching and evaluation. NLIU is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
