Bharati Vidyapeeth, which is the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, is one of the largest networks of educational institutions in India. Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University started officially functioning on 26th April, 1996 after receiving communication from the Government of India granting the status of 'University' under section of the UGC Act, 1996 to a cluster of twelve institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth. The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (previously the Institute of Armament Technology) is a Deemed University in Girinagar, Pune, India. It began as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952, before moving to its current location in 1967. It is accredited by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and in the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed University.
The Institute runs eight post graduate courses in Modeling and Simulation, Laser and Electro-optics, Chemical Technology, (High Energy Materials), Aerospace Engineering, Air Armament Engineering, Combat Vehicles, and many more short courses. A few of the courses are open for civilian students also.

The MHRD vide notification No. F.9-5/2004-U.3 dated June 3, 2005 has declared Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) a Deemed to be University along with ten Constituent Institutions (CIs) (As mentioned above- 4 R&D Centres and 6 Grant-in-aid Institutions, excluding TIFR, Mumbai, which is a Deemed University on its own)
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), was established by the Reserve Bank of India for researching on issues of development. It was registered as an autonomous society in 1986 and as a Public Trust in January 1987. A new campus was inaugurated by Rajiv Gandhi in December 1987. It had started as a full fledged research organization but soon transformed itself into a teaching as well as research organization. Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, is India's premier chemical engineering and technology research institute. It is an institute dedicated to training and research in various branches of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, and Pharmacy. Over the last 76 years it has acquired the status of being a premier and renowned institute of Chemical Technology in the country.
The ICT was selected as a Lead Institution under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Govt. of India. For effective implementation of this programme, the Govt. of Maharashtra granted complete Autonomy to ICT since June 2004. On 12 September 2008, the ICT was granted the Deemed-to-be University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. Now it is renamed as the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) [Deemed University], and is functioning as per the Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and Rules of its own.
The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Center (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities and was declared as a 'Deemed University' on August 19, 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.
The Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences was declared as “University” under section 3 of the UGC Act in May 2005.

The University of Mumbai (formerly University of Bombay), is a state university situated in Maharashtra state of India. It has been given a five-star ranking by NAAC. The name of the university was changed from University of Bombay to University of Mumbai according to a Government Gazette dated 4 September 1996. Symbiosis International University (S.I.U) is a private co-educational, multi-institutional university located in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
