Berhampur University is one of the prominent universities in Orissa. It has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a rating of B+. The university was incepted in 1967 with the mission to provide the benefits of higher education to the people of south Orissa, to foster socio-economic growth of the region and to study, preserve and enrich the culture of South Orissa. The university has completed 37 years and has carved for itself a place of pride in the academic map of the country. University of Berhampur is a permanent member of the Inter University Board of India and Sri Lanka as well as that of the Association of Common Wealth University of London.

Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Orissa, with its head-quarters in Rourkela has been established by an Act of the Assembly, Government of Orissa in June 2002. All Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture and most of the colleges offering MCA and MBA degree programmes are either constituent or affiliated colleges of this University.

The main objective of instituting the Biju Patnaik University of Technology was to ensure a high quality of students coming out of the technical colleges through a common curriculum and uniform evaluation. Today, the University has 110 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 58,000 students. The disciplines include engineering and architecture, business management and hotel management, computer studies and pharmacy. Several of these offer both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

Centurion University (through its social outreach entity, Gram Tarang) is one of the first partner to National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to set up over 50 Skill Training and Capacity Building Centres across the country. We are proud to have entered into partnership with Government of Orissa, Government of India and non-government agencies to provide vocational training with job assurance for BPL, SC & ST youth, who would otherwise be unemployed and unemployable due to lack of adequate education and/or skills.

The Fakir Mohan University which was carved out of the Utkal University was established by the Government of Orissa in 1999 acts as an affiliating university and aims to provide higher education through linkages with number of colleges and institutes around the state. Presently the university has more than 60 colleges and 1.5 lakhs students at the graduate and postgraduate levels. This university became one of the best Universities from the point of view of the quality of colleges and students in India.Further this F.M.University is the unique in introducing the applied courses in Post Graduate level and M.Sc. in Applied Physics & Ballistics as First in India.

KIIT University or Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University, Bhubaneswar, was incepted in 1997. It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, and has acquired university status granted by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. On account of its outstanding performance in education and training, it has entered the Limca Book of Records as the youngest University in the country.

North Orissa University, established in 1998 under the Orissa University Act, 1989, is a reputed center of learning in the region. It has been included in the list of Universities maintained under the University Grants Commission Act 1956, to impart higher education in the Tribal base area of Northern Orissa. The university survives with the objectives of providing quality professional education through distance mode. Being a state university, it is recognized by UGC and a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Founded in 1962, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) is located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Orissa. The second oldest agriculture university in the country, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology is dedicated to agriculture related research, extension and education. It has three academic campuses across Orissa. OUAT is a multi-faculty technical University with an earned status of being a leader in teaching, research & extension. The university is approved by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and University Grant Commission, UGC.

Located at Cuttack in Orissa, Ravenshaw University has evolved out of a heritage educational institution. Ravenshaw University offers a blend of old and new values and skills. It is an elevation of Ravenshaw College, established in 1868, one of the oldest and largest colleges in India which subsequently became an autonomous college with CPE status by University Grants Commission and ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The campus of Ravenshaw University has impressive structures established over about hundred acres of land on the eastern side of Cuttack. It has acquired more land on the bank of river Mahanadi to build its second campus for the new disciplines of Management and Applied Sciences.

Sambalpur University, which began its operations in January 1967, is situated at the heart of western Orissa, in the beautiful city of Sambalpur, surrounded by dense forest and hills. Ten districts of Orissa namely Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Nawapara, Kalahandi, Boudh and Athamallik Sub-Division of Angul District are covered under the territorial jurisdiction of the University.

Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya is the third Sanskrit university in India. Established by the Government of Orissa, the university is located in Puri in the state. It has played a vital role in the development and promotion of Sanskrit in the state as well as the country. The ambience provided by the university is ideal for study and research in the field of Sanskrit. The university has dedicated itself to the cause of preserving and promoting studies and research in the language. A member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya has been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Siksha O Anusandhan University (SOA) is a university in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, declared Siksha O Anusandhan deemed to be a university on 17 July 2007. In between the UGC expert team reviewed the SOA University during 10–12 August 2009 and has recommended an extension of three years effective from 2009/10 academic sessions. Besides, the NAAC team has accredited SOA University with “A” grade in the academic session w.e.f. 30th September, 2009. All the eligible programs are NBA accredited and the University is ISO certified by United Registrar of Systems (URS).

Utkal University, Bhubaneswar is the oldest university in Orissa and the seventeenth oldest university in India. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University that has produced some of the best brains in Orissa. There are at present twenty-six Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce. The total number of students in the PG Departments of the campus at Vani Vihar is nearly 3,000. This is, in fact, the largest affiliating University in the country with 267 affiliated general colleges, 15 Law colleges, 6 Medical & Pharmacy colleges.

The Utkal University of Culture, the first of its type in India, was, established with the objective of  promoting education, research and training in various spheres of culture such as language, literature, religions, visual arts, performing arts, sculpture, architecture, folklore, tribal studies etc. through development and extension works for the advancement of knowledge and for the betterment of the society.

The university also explores documents, preserves and propagates the rich cultural heritage through such devices as establishing libraries, archives, galleries, workshop, initiating programmes of publication etc. Besides, comprehensive surveys on matters related to culture are also conducted by the university.

Located in Burla(Orissa), Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) University of Technology was established in 1956 under Utkal University. Formerly known as University College of Engineering Burla, it is now a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The college conducts several courses in science & technology field at different levels. It has gained the approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. In order to keep its students updated with the latest technical education, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology regularly updates its syllabus and organizes workshops, interaction session with industry personnel.
