Bharati Vidyapeeth, which is the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, is one of the largest networks of educational institutions in India. It was established by Dr. Patangrao Kadam in 1964 in Pune, with a focused objective of bringing about intellectual awakening of people and for preparing manpower capable of contributing effectively towards national development, particularly economic development. Within a short span of 14 years this University has established its reputation for academic excellence and research nationally and internationally.

Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University started officially functioning on 26th April, 1996 after receiving communication from the Government of India granting the status of 'University' under section of the UGC Act, 1996 to a cluster of twelve institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth. The recognition as 'University' was given to these institutions in appreciation of their high academic excellence, rich infrastructural facilities and the potential for further growth.

Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute is a post-graduate institute of Archeology and Linguistics in Pune, India.

Established October 6, 1821, Deccan College is one of the oldest institutions of modern learning in India. It was originally run by the Bombay Government as a center for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, offering western education in accordance with the desire of its founder Mountstuart Elphinstone. It was incorporated by the Poona University (now University of Pune) in 1948, becoming one of its recognized institutions. India granted the Deemed to be University Status to the Institute on March 5, 1990. Currently Deccan College has two teaching and research Departments, Archaeology and linguistics.

The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (previously the Institute of Armament Technology) is a Deemed University in Girinagar, Pune, India. It began as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952, before moving to its current location in 1967. It is accredited by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and in the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed University.

The Institute runs eight post graduate courses in Modeling and Simulation, Laser and Electro-optics, Chemical Technology, (High Energy Materials), Aerospace Engineering, Air Armament Engineering, Combat Vehicles, and many more short courses. A few of the courses are open for civilian students also.

Established in 1930, the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune is one of the oldest institutions in the field of Economics education and research in India. It got the status of a deemed university in 1993. Primarily conceived as a research center, it has acquired the status of a reputed institution in Economics. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited with A+ Grade.

The University of Pune (formerly the University of Poona), located in North Western Pune, is one of India's premier universities. It was founded in 1949. Spread over a 400 acre (1.6 km²) campus, the university is home to 46 academic departments. University of Pune has been given the highest "A" rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for its overall performance.

Symbiosis International University (S.I.U) is a private co-educational, multi-institutional university located in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It has been given official recognition by the UGC and the AICTE. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council have conferred an 'A' grade to the University. SIU is part of the Symbiosis Society which is its managing body.

The Society was established in 1971 by Padmashree Dr S.B. Mujumdar. It was given autonomous status in 2002 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and since then has opened many more institutes affiliated to it.

Tilak Maharashtra University, also known as Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, is one of the oldest universities in India. It was established in 1921 at Pune and imparted national education amongst the youths during the pre-independence era. Even after independence, Tilak Maharashtra University catered to the needs of the changing society. Recognising the contribution of the University in the fields of Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Social Sciences and Distance Education, the University was awarded the status of a Deemed University in the year of 1987.
