College of Engineering Roorkee was establishment in 1998. It is a private engineering college, which is located in Roorkee (Uttarakhand). the college is affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University and Uttarakhand Technical University. College of Engineering Roorkee is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India, New Delhi. It conducts courses in various streams of engineering at the undergraduate level - Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).
The Architecture Course was started at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in the year 1956-57. In the year 1961, the Department was housed in its own independent building and premises. The B.Arch. course was recognized by the Indian Institute of Architects in December 1961. The Department has the singular distinction of being the first in INDIA in instituting a Masters Degree course in Architecture (M. Arch.) in the year 1969-70. This was eventually raised to an independent course of Masters Degree in Urban and Rural Planning (MURP) in the year 1973-74. The Institute takes very special care in selecting students for admission to various academic programmes with the objective of providing technical education only to the best ones.
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is the oldest institute of technical education in Asia to award its own degrees. IIT Roorkee was established in year 1847 as Thomason College of Civil Engineering by the British. IIT Roorkee has been ranked No. 6 by India Today in the list of Top 25 Engineering colleges of India. IIT Roorkee has academic collaboration with University of Texas, National University of Singapore, University of Waterloo and Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
The institute has 18 Departments covering all major academic courses in engineering and science. The Institute offers 10 disciplines of Engineering and Architecture in Bachelor degree and in 55 disciplines of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Architecture and Planning in Postgraduate degree programme. Students to B.Tech and B.Arch. courses are admitted through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). Admission to other courses is based on JAM, JMET, and GATE entrance exams. The world class Central Library of IIT Roorkee houses over 3,20,000 volumes of study material.
