NEHU (North Eastern Hill University) was established on July 19th, 1973 in Shillong. The main objective of the NEHU is to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in unique branches of learning that pay special attention towards the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people and society. NEHU is a UGC recognized university providing quality education.

North Eastern Hill University has 8 schools and 36 departments offering different undergraduate and post graduate courses. The university is affiliated to over 60 colleges.  The central library of the university has a collection of over 2,00,000 books, 38,000 periodicals and it also subscribes to 316 foreign and 366 Indian current journals. The University has been accorded a 4 star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
