Chitkara University, Barotiwala, Solan was established in 2008 under Section 2 (f) of UGC Act 1956 by the Himachal Pradesh State Legislature under Himachal Pradesh Private Universities ( Establishment & Regulation ) Act 2006 . It is located at Barotiwala, Himachal Pradesh, India.

Right from the time of its inception the University has grown tremendously and is moving ahead to attain its goal of being the leading university in North India. Their objective has been to present the preeminent education in India. there are 1700 Undergraduates and 150 post graduate students in all the programmes. Chitkara University has praiseworthy infrastructure and includes other facilities like the cafeteria, hostels for students, internet access (wireless), bank, transportation, therapeutic services in campus and an obsessive student information center. This University was established in 1962 with its affiliation to Panjab University, Chandigarh. This University has grown into its own kind not only in the country but in whole of Asia with new dimensions of education, research and extension in Horticulture and Forestry. It is playing an important role in increasing horticulture production in the state of Himachal Pradesh in particular and in the country in general.
The main objectives of this university is Providing education in Horticulture, Forestry and allied branches of learning and scholarship, Advancement of basic and applied research pertaining to Horticulture, Forestry and other allied sciences , Extension and dissemination of Scientific information among rural masses of the state. It has two colleges, namely, the College of Horticulture and the College of Forestry, which are sub-divided into 14 departments and are looked after by a faculty of over 200 scientists and teachers It covers 5.5 km² and is situated in Nauni on the Solan-Rajgarh Road. The campus lies 15 km from the town of Solan. The University was established on December 1, 1985 and is named after the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.And it Provides all kind of modern facilities like hostels and a huge library.
