Aligarh is known as Mecca of Education because of Aligarh Muslim University. It is one of the oldest and premier central universities in India, established during the British Raj in year 1875. It is a residential academic university of international repute. Aligarh Muslim University is located in the city of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. The university was founded by Sir Syed Ahmed Kahan as Mahamadan Anglo-Oriental, It was later transformed into a Central University and henceforth it was renamed as the Aligarh Muslim University.

Amity University is a private university in Noida, India established under an Uttar Pradesh state government act. It is also home to the Amity Institute of Information Technology.

The founder president is Ashok Chauhan. It is not approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As per the university, it is not required to take the approval of AICTE. The university has been involved in controversies, including refusal by the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) to recognize Amity University and an international arrest warrant against its founder president Ashok Chauhan

Established in 1996, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is a Central University of India. The university campus is located on Rae Bareli Road, about 10kms south of the Charbagh Railway Station. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University offers only post-graduate courses. BBAU aims to promote advance knowledge by providing higher standards of instructional and research facilities. The university provides hostel facilities to students who are not the residents of Lucknow.

It has 6 schools and 15 departments in the field of science, economics, computer science, mass communication, bio-technology, law and human development. Chaudhary Charan Singh University, formerly Meerut University is located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. CCS University was established in 1965. It was later renamed to its current name after Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime minister of India.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, also Agra University is one of the oldest institutions in Uttar Pradesh, in the historic city of Agra. Well known professors of the university include Shankar Dayal Sharma, Motilal Nehru, Gulzari Lal Nanda, Chaudhary Charan Singh, Krishna Dutt Paliwal, Hridyanath Kunzru, Dr. Deoki Nandan and Ahmed Ali, who co-founded the All-India Progressive Writers' Movement & Association and is the author of Twilight in Delhi. The Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University, is a university in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. This is one of the oldest agricultural institutes in South Asia.

It is Through Gazette notification No.F.9-26/94-U.3 dated March 15, 2000, Gov. of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary and Higher Education/ Aided under Dept. of Agriculture, Gov. of UP recognized Deemed University. On 15 March 2000 India's central government declared the Allahabad Agricultural Institute a deemed university. The University Grants Commission (UGC) identifies Allahabad as a deemed university.
