Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College,( formerly name Bangabasi College of Commerce) established in 1965, is an undergraduate college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It offers undergraduate course in arts and commerce. Late Acharya Girish Chandra Bose, M.A, M.R.AC. and a closed associate of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar returned to Calcutta from London on the 14th July, 1884 after successful completion of his higher studies. The then Director of Public Instructions Sir Alfred Croft offered him a prestegious higher post in the Education Department of British Govt. But he refused to accept it. He also did not hesitate to refuse the higher post offered by Nizam of Hydrabad. Instead, he devoted his entire life to the cause of extension and development of education of the people of the country.

Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya is a co-educational degree college. It was established in 1985 and it had been duly accredited by National Assesment and Accredidation Council, (NAAC) Bangalore. The college was founded in September 1985 as a consequence of a long drawn mass movement in the early seventies of the last century led by liberal democratic and education loving people of the locality. As a result of the mass movement of the local people, a preparatory committee was formed under the leadership of Sri Santimoy Bhattacharya. The committee requested the Rajpur Municipality to sanction a plot of land that would be suitable for the establishment of the college. It is affiliated to the University of Calcutta, which offers a wide range of subjects and facilities to its learners.Three well equipped faculties namely Science, Arts and Commerce have set a high watermark of teaching and learning which is certainly in tune with the heritage of the land.
Founded at Goalpota in December 1971, Sovarani Memorial College inherits a History of progressive development both in infrastructural and educational level. It has now its own premise. The College with its green complex of about 3.15 acres of land, with a flower garden, Greenfield and ponds is situated about 35 km away from the din and bustle of Kolkata. Late Satyanarayan Khan, a highly revered social activist of this village, to fulfill the aspiration of his deceased wife late Sovarani Devi, established this college. The founders kept in mind the need of the local people. Today this co-educational college offers undergraduate courses also in the science and commerce, besides Humanities streams. At present ten Honours subjects and fourteen general subjects from the curriculum of the College.

St Joseph's College is a government-aided, Christian minority, co-educational college in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. The college campus is located about 3 km north from downtown Darjeeling. The college was established in 1888 along with the School Department and was affiliated to Calcutta University in 1927. In 1962, with the establishment of the University of North Bengal, the college was affiliated to this university. Sudhiranjan Lahiri Mahavidyalaya college started its journey with affiliation to the University of Calcutta for pre-University and undergraduate course in 1966. Only 27 students in total enrolled themselves to the said courses. In 1973, the college earned affiliation for Bengali Honours standard and in 1974 Pass/General standard in Commerce was introduced. It was under the able leadership of late principal Dr. Hirendra Chandra Ghosh that the college really began to take off.
Sunderban Mahavidyalaya was established in 1965 from then the college started teaching the programme in Arts at the degree level under the aegis of the University of Calcutta. Affiliation of Political Science to the Honours Standard was sanctioned in 1970 – 71 and the programme in Commerce at the general degree level was initiated in 1971 – 72. Affiliation of Accounting and Finance to the Honours Standard was granted in 1984 – 85. Advanced courses in other major subjects in the Faculty of Arts were subsequently introduced with the expansion of buildings and other related infrastructure with the grants from the UGC, the Zilla Parishad and the MPLAD: Bengali in 1995 – 96; History in 1998 – 99; English in 2000 – 01; Economics in 2002 – 03 and Philosophy in 2003 – 04. Affiliation of Geography to the General Standard was sanctioned in 2001 – 02 and that of Education to the General Standard in 2002 – 03. The programme in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the General degree level was inaugurated in 1995. Subsequently, affiliation of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to the Honours Standard were granted in 2000–01, 2001–02 respectively. Advanced course in Geography was introduced in 2004 – 05, catering to the needs of a large number of students who study Geography in their Higher Secondary Course.
Surendranath College for Women was established in 1948, mainly for imparting higher education to girls from partition-affected families. After partition many families came from the then East Pakistan and settled in the Sealdah railway station area and its neighborhood. It became necessary to open a branch for women at the nearest college. The girls had to take up jobs during the afternoons to support their families. So our College with its morning timings came into existence.The College shifted to its own premises at 24, Mahatma Gandhi Road and classes began there from 1997. The building is next door to the older one and used to be the Ripon hostel.
The establishment of the commerce section in surendranath banerjeein in 1940 and the evening science section in 1947 eventually made way to the formation of Surendranath Evening College in 1961. In 1963 some more subjects were added like Political Science, History, Economics, Sanskrit, Urdu, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.In the year 1996, the University of Calcutta affiliated Honours in Bengali. The introduction of Computer Science, Electronic Science and especially Electronic Equipment Maintenance (Vocational) at degree level in 1998-99 and Honors in Marketing in Commerce Stream in 2004-05 has been an important step towards making this college a model evening college. Besides the college is running the Honours course in Accountancy quite successfully. In 2001-2002 university gave permission to start the Honours course in Electronic Science.
Surya Sen Mahavidyalaya, affiliated to the University of North Bengal, made its humble beginning on September 18, 1998, for conducting degree courses in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Initially classes were held in the Siliguri College campus. The present campus of the college, at Surya Sen Colony, Siliguri, became operational since July 2000. With the establishment of Surya Sen Mahavidyalaya, a long standing demand for a third college in Siliguri finally became realised. Since its inception, the Mahavidyalaya has carved out a niche in the academic frame of Siliguri.
On 5th Sept.1968, Susil Kar College began its journey as a Co-educational undergraduate degree college under the affiliation of the University of Calcutta. It offers ba, bsc and bcom honours adn general courses. Late Shri Bijoly Bhushan Kar awaken to this need for the spread of education in his native place. To that effect, Champahati donated about one acre of his ancestral land for the establishment of a college, in memory of his father, Late Shri Susil Kar. With the active and constructive support of like minded people like Late Doctor Durgapada Banerjee, Ex Head master Late Sushil Kumar Putatunda, Shri Ardhendu Adhikary, Late Dr. Tarapada Ghosh, Prof. Late Shri Sharat Ghosh, Shri Bidyut Sarkar, Shri. Bamandeb Majumdar, Late Dr. Bhabendranath Mondal, Late Bijoy Krishna Roy, Smt. Muktamala Kar among others, this visionary's dream materialised.
Swami Niswambalananda Girls' College is situated in the southernmost part of the Hooghly District on the bank of Hooghly river in the Municipal area under Uttarpara-Kotrong Municipality. This part of the suburb of Kolkata was widely known for its refined culture and positive contribution to the society through its distinguished personalities consisting of benevolent, educated and socially vibrant zamindars and enthusiastic local gentry. Motivated by these social activists, a section of local energetic people came forward to establish a Girls' College for the upliftment of female folk in view of the mounting social injustice to women. Their concerted endeavour gained momentum and ultimately this Degree College as a centre for female education saw the light on 4th September, 1978 under the umbrella of University of Calcutta.
Syamaprasad College, founded by Dr. Syamaprasad Mukherjee, came into existence in the city immediately after the end of World War II in 1945. It was then styled as Asutosh College of Commerce (evening section). So this college has its genesis in Asutosh College and has primarily been designed to meet the growing demand for higher education in Commerce among the emploted youth. This Evening Section was delinked from Asutosh College and acquired the status of a full-fledged independent college in 1958 with a separate Principal and separate management (i.e. Governing Body) under instruction from University Grants Commission and with the approval & affiliation of University of Calcutta. After the immature demise of Dr. Mukherjee, the ex-Vice Chancellor, Calcutta University resolved to perpetuate the memory of Dr. Mukherjee by renaming the college founded by him as Syamaprasad College in 1962.

The foundation stone of Tufanganj College was laid on 26th March 1969 by the then District Magistrate of Cooch behar and the name of the college was Tufanganj College and Institute of Agriculture. Tufanganj college is affiliated to University of North Bengal.

The Vidyanagar College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It is located on the road joining Amtala and Budge Budge to Bishnupur, Block-II in the District of South 24-Parganas, some thirty kilometers away from Esplanede, the administrative and commercial hub of the city of Culcutta. The college, though only a little away from the south-west fringes of the metroplis, is situated entirely in a rural setting amidst lush pastures. The college came into being on 29 july, 1963 as the unflinching zeal and social commitment of visionaries of the locality ,such as the late Dhirendranath Bera and the late Harendranath Majumder, were brought to fruition.
Vidyasagar College for Women as a full fledged separate college affiliated to the University of Calcutta was founded in 1960. However, its history went back to 1931 when a separate womens’ section of the Vidyasagar College was started to cater to the educational requirements of the women folk of Kolkata. Its classes were held in the morning. The womens’ section was temporarily brought to a stop during the second world war. Since 1947, however, expansion in all branches of its activities took place steadily and regularly. New subjects were introduced and a group of dedicated teachers inspired confidence among the students who enrolled in large numbers. Since its foundation in 1960, Vidyasagar College for Women committed itself to carry forward the ideals and principles of Pundit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, the great educationist and social reformer of the 19th century. At present the college consists of three campuses.

Vidyasagar Evening College, a co-educational institution affiliated to the University of Calcutta, shares a long and illustrious history with two of its sister institution Vidyasagar College and Vidyasagar College for Women.The emergence of Metropolitan Institution from Calcutta Training School, (set up by Thakurdas Chakraborty in 1859) when Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar became the President of the its managing committee in 1860, set the institution for and unwavering and irrevocable process of growth which led it to be affiliated by Calcutta University for first Arts on January 1st, 1872, and ultimately in 1917 it was renamed Vidyasagar College.

Continuous with the struggle carried on by the victims of partition elsewhere, the college sprang up with the sole effort put in by those uprooted from the erstwhile East Bengal.
Vivekananda College, which was initially known as Barisha College, had its origin in 1950 under the Dispersal Scheme of the State Government to ease pressure for admission of students to the Colleges in the Calcutta Metropolis with the influx of people from the then East Pakistan, the present Bangladesh. It was first housed in Barisha High School and later shifted to its newly built premises close to the school compound in 1953. It was then an Intermediate College. In June 1956 the College was sponsored by the State Government with its upgrading as a degree College and in the same year it was also brought under the Refugee Education Scheme of the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India, with the State Government retaining control over it. After ward ,it was at this time that the College was christened as Vivekananda College after the sacred name of Swami Vivekananda - the great patriot and social reformer, an eternal embodiment of the soul of India and a great inspiring force behind the making of modern India. Vivekananda College now has the teaching facilities up to Honours standard in 17 subjects for Under-Graduate Studies in the Faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce under the University of Calcutta.

Vivekananda Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1964 in commemoration of birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda. It was the outcome of sincere effortd and active support- both moral and financial of some of the enlightened forsighted local people. The avowed purpose was to cater to the need of higher education in the backword rural area of jhargram Sub-Division of erstwhile midnapore distric. Starting its journey with approximately 50 studens of art stream, 5 teaching and 2 non-teaching staff members in two rooms of the local high school, it now has its own Complex building in the 19 acres (approx) of land acquird on lease from the State Government and more than 1300 students of Arts, Science and Commerce streams, 25 teaching, 16 non-teaching staff members and 1 Librarion from integral parts of what is known as Vivekananda Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya.
Women's College, Calcutta was founded on 2nd July 1937, by a group of devoted scholars under the guidance of Dr. D. L. De with a view to advancing the cause of higher education among women. The college got affiliation to C.U. on 27th April, 1940. DR. D.L. De was the Principal and Secretary of the college till his death in March 1959.
Women’s Christian College was founded on 19th July 1945 under the aegis of the Bengal Christian Council by a group of Christian educationists who were committed to the spread of women’s education in West Bengal. The founder Principal of the college was Miss Stella Bose while the founder Secretary was Miss Nirajbasini Shome.The I.A. Course was started with three students in 1945-46 and the figure rose to twenty-two by the end of the session. Calcutta University affiliation for the I.A. course was granted in 1947-48 and that for the B.A. course in 1948-49 (with Honours only in Bengali). It took some more years for Honours to be extended to English, Sanskrit and Economics.
