Banaras Hindu University is the largest residential University in Asia. It is a Central University known for established in year 1916. BHU was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The Banaras Hindu University comprises 14 Faculties, 124 Departments, 3 Institutes, 4 Inter-displinary Centers, 3 Constituents Schools and a constituent college for women. Banaras Hindu University is ranked as the second best university in the field of research after Delhi University.

The campus is spread over a vast expanse of 2,760acres. The university has 60 hotels of which 17 are girls hostel. The aim of the university is to promote the study of the Sanskrit Literature and Hindu Shastras. BHU not only attracts students from India but also from other countries of the world. The Banaras Hindu University campus is emerging as a potential hub to impart education, training and entrepreneurship development skills, to the youth, women and marginalized sections of society. Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library has a total collection of over 13lakh volumes to serve the students, faculty members, researchers and technical staff.
